Proverbs 11:24-26 (New International Version)
24 One man gives freely, yet gains even more;
another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
25 A generous man will prosper;
he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
26 People curse the man who hoards grain,
but blessing crowns him who is willing to sell.
There’s a little karma straight out of the Bible for you. These verses are part of why I try to give, give, give when I’m having a hard time. I know these are sort of about money, but I usually operate on a more emotional level with them. I always seem to remember the phrase ‘he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed’ when I’m going through a difficult time emotionally. Like lately.
I got a bit of refreshing today by helping out my friend Manell. She currently has four children under the age of 7 and she just had the fourth one last week. So, no matter how weary I am from the work and emotional damage I’ve done this week I really think she is probably more exhausted.
So I took her two oldest kids for a couple of hours today and wore them out good while she napped with her two youngest. I actually had a great time and I think the kids really like me. I thought I would have grown out of caring if other kids liked me by now, but it still gives me a thrill when children genuinely like me.
I always think it is telling of a person’s character whether kids and dogs like them. So, I’m feeling pretty good about the fact that those kids liked me today.
After a trip to play with my parents’ dogs, play at the park and pick flowers for Manell I also got to hang out with the Manell and the exhausted kids. We had a nice talk and her oldest daughter fell asleep in my lap. Yeah. It was a good afternoon, and I am definitly refreshed. Love that Christian karma.
