The Commune

So I’m having another “I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up” type of day. I was thinking about why I chose the career I have now and I can’t even completely remember why I did it. I do think I always wanted to be in public relations or marketing. Originally the degree I was interested in was Mass Communications.

Just those words appeal to me: communing with the masses; getting the word out; telling everyone. I love it. Of course there are elements of journalism that appeal to me to. The ideals of truth and equality. The concept of ferreting out the truth and bringing it to light.

Which, I suppose, is also what appeals to me about the ministry: illuminating people to the ultimate truth. Of course, I believe there are high truths beyond Christianity. I also believe that high art contains such high truth — that’s what makes it high art.

Furthermore, performance art seems even more possible of impacting people with the highest truths because it is so intensely emotional, and has the propensity of affecting so many people simultaneously. So, I guess I’m back to communing with the masses.

But, how am I to make a career of such a thing? Who will pay me for this sort of mass commune? What job can you derive from that?

So, I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.
