The Good Stuff

October 24, 2009

Today I am tired. I stayed up really late last night and finally went to bed around 4 a.m. But it was a great night. I got to celebrate the life choices of a friend, have a lot of laughs with some ladies I love and even meet a couple of new ladies who are fantastic.

Good stuff.

Of course, now I have to recover a little. I cleaned up after the party and then headed to work for a few hours to finalize some things I hadn’t gotten to during my long, arduous work week.

At about 2 p.m., after finishing a few advice pages and talking to a boy I am currently flirting with, I realized I was getting a headache because I hadn’t eaten yet.

So, I headed out for take out.

As I got in to my car it was starting to rain. I headed toward the gap. And the sky was suddenly black. The wind was blowing like crazy and I had to set my windshield wipers on high. I stopped at an intesection on Omaha a few moments later and there was a cloud of leaves swirling around my car.

My eyes must have been incredibly wide as I was sort of awe-stricken by it. I actually heard myself sigh.

Well, I hadn’t decided what kind of take out I wanted yet — and I didn’t want to get out of the car in the downpour — so I just drove around town for a bit. I actually got onto the Interstate to get to LaCrosse. I was speeding down the highway, the rain was pourning and classic rock was pounding out of my stereo.

It was a simple, exciting and beautiful moment. Just a few minutes of pure good stuff. I remember thinking, “I love my life.”

The rain was also the type really alters the color of everything.

The contrast was more stark and everything was a deeper version of it’s normal color — especially when the clouds broke and the light streaming through them was this golden-yellow. Like rendered butter dripping down from the sky down onto the world that the rain had made blue.

It was beautiful. I’m so glad I noticed it — and enjoyed it. I know I miss the good stuff sometimes. Especially when the good stuff is something simple like rain and rock and roll.

So what’s your good stuff? And what good stuff were you able to enjoy today?
