Flying to See Sky (and Tanya!)

August 2, 2010

Holy headache, Batman. That’s right I have a headache.

And, as a result of said headache, I barely have enough mental wherewithal to keep my fingers on the home row of the keyboard.

Come on Crystal, soldier on. You are trying to write one entry a day — you can do this.

But my head hurts! Plus, I still have a couple of hours of work to do.

Think happy thoughts, Crystal

…hummmmm……Oh, I know! Overtime money to spend in NY!

Okay, now my head is a little better.

So, as some of you know, I got my vacation time approved and on Friday I got my tickets picked out too. I’m totally stoked! Especially since I found out that I can take my laptop with me on the airplane. I’m usually very pensive and internal while on a trip. Making me full of insights. But usually if I’m on a trip I’m driving so my hands aren’t exactly free for writing.

Maybe something amazing will come out of me while I take my first trip east of the Mississippi River! Maybe my own version of “Eat, Pray, Love?” Eh…probably not. But maybe it will be something almost as good.

Of course planning for the trip has me thinking about trying to slim down in the next 2 months so that I’m not completely embarrassed forevermore by the photos taken of me while on my trip. Tanya even suggested I pack a swimming suit. I have no idea the last time I was that naked in public…2001? Maybe I’ll skip the suit.

Speaking of packing, I am suddenly embarrassed by all of the clothes in my closet. What can I wear on my trip to NYC that I will feel good about?

Plus, I have no idea how much money I’m going to need while on the trip. I think I have arranged it so that I can have $500-$1000 bucks just for the trip (not including the ticket — that’s already paid for).

I hope that’s enough.

I have a list of things I want to do already besides just seeing my amazing friends Tanya and Sky (and the others who are now in NYC).

  • I HAVE TO see a musical while I’m there and after watching the Tonys I’m thinking I want to go to “American Idiot.”
  • I’ve been advised to take the double-decker tour bus one of the days I’m there
  • I’m interested in a ferry ride around the island/a ferry ride to Ellis Island

So far, that’s all I’ve got. Anyone have any more ideas for me?

A few ideas… My hubby could take us on a flight — he does nice Hudson River corridor/NYC sites tours, or up to Connecticut to our favorite pasta shop. We can go to a beach even if you don’t want to wear a swimsuit. 🙂 Out for sushi? A nice walk with my dog and my baby? To Montauk (easternmost point of Long Island) — they have good clam strips. Apple picking? Wow, this is sounding exciting, huh.

As far as what to wear in NYC … people won’t bat an eye no matter what you wear, I PROMISE. But if you want to fit in, probably black would be the way to go. 🙂

That all sounds great. Wow…now I feel like there might be too much to do while I’m there. Mostly I just want to see you and Nara…oh, yeah and Aaron too. 😉

Definitely see the 9/11 tribute. When I went to NYC last summer that was probably the one of my highlights. Idk if they have the big tribute yet, but I remember hearing my grandparents say they were taking there time to make it special. Really there was not one thing that stood out from the other (keep in mind I’m only talking about manhattan). I just loved being surrounded by that atmosphere.

A note on the ferry to Ellis island, you might have to wait half the day to get on and go through the whole process. At least that’s what I heard so you could be wasting your valuable NYC time.

I first off must convey my huge jealousy! As every year I plan the same trip and every year I am forced to use all my vacation and money to go to stupid Rapid City for someones dang wedding or reunion or other such nonsense! So please enjoy and take lots of pictures so I can live through you on this momentous occasion. I have been obsessed with NY ever since seinfeld came out. Weird I know. Brandy used to say that I would buy anything if you put the words “New York” in front of it. She is somewhat right. ok then well I guess I will see you in September the weekend of the 10th for another silly wedding. This time I was bribed by my mother who is finally coming to see me as a trade. Please do one thing for me…Flip off Yankee Stadium! I love NY but I hate those Yanks!
