A List of Things That Make You Happy…

May 7, 2015

279df634c21fdd880c5ac21585c95565This meme has been circulating around Facebook for the past few weeks. When I saw it the first time I thought it was awesome and just shared it. I quickly thought I was good to go in this regard, and thought, “Yeah, I do things that make me happy every day.”

The next few times I saw it, I slowed down a little more. I thought what are those things I do every day that make me happy. I thought of a few really easily. Petting my puppy, eating…anything, hugging the kiddos at school, cleaning off my coffee table so that the living room is clean when I come home from work.

But then I realized I was doing it backwards. I was thinking of the things I did every day that made me happy instead of thinking of things that made me happy and trying to find a way to get them into my life every day.

When I thought about it in this direction I couldn’t even think of what to put on the list of things that make me happy. I can easily make a list of things I do every day and let you know if they make me happy or not, but honestly, I have been working so hard for the past few years that I have really given very little thought to what things make me happy that I want to add to or enhance in my life.

So I’m working on a list of things to try to see if they make me “happy.” And trying to figure out which things are worth trying to add to my life on a daily, weekly, monthly, basis. Any ideas for things to add to my to try list?

Someone commented on my last post saying my sensation of being overburdened means I’m not finding/making enough fun. It seemed so right then … and even more so now. I need to contemplate this (and act on what I discover)!

What do you have on your list of things to add to your life so far? I have stuff like hiking and reading at the moment.

I have just started adding reading to my evenings, and I love it. But as I look at my own list from a couple months back, it’s what I do, not what I want to do. Let me get back to you on this in a few days!

These questions bring up quite a beautiful perspective! I was able to come up with two things that I routinely do that bring me a feeling of Joy and Happiness: Cuddle with my dog/cats/husband and early morning walks. WHAT?! Only TWO?! There MUST be more, but they just aren’t coming to mind at the moment!

Thank you for bringing this question to my attention! I am looking forward to ADDING to my daily life, rather than focusing on completing the “To Do” lists in my brain!

So the Jacqui-Joy-Time Begins: Read a book! SING! Play the piano! Plant a garden! Sit down and play at my pottery wheel! Color! Paint! Create!
